Treatment for the Chronic Relapser

Relapse is just a slide or a backward step in recovery from drug or alcohol addictions. A relapse is the use of a drug or alcohol over time of abstinence. Relapse is obviously a chance in restoration, but, a lot could be done to stop it. While others never relapse, some people really have a problem with relapse. Several friends and family members are baffled by their loved ones who despite proper addiction treatment find themselves using or drinking again.

Sometimes, relapse is an one-time function or one short-period of drinking or using, without any further relapsing. Regrettably, you can find those people who have difficulties with consistently relapsing. Some individuals are believed chronic relapsers. Chronic relapsers would be the those who despite having managed to stay clean and sober for an interval of time continue to have a problem with going back to drugs and/or alcohol.

As everyone can imagine, this can be incredibly frustrating for that friends and family of an addict or alcoholic. The family may think they are able to finally have some peace of mind, and then be back in the chaos of addiction. It can be frustrating enough to get the correct treatment help for someone having an dependency the first time, finding treatment for the persistent relapser can be a lot more challenging.

The first step in finding therapy for the chronic relapser is always to establish the chronic relapser. The account of the serious relapser often includes these characteristics:

* Many efforts at sobriety which have failed despite having experienced therapy

* Inability to keep achieved sobriety irrespective of high degrees of understanding of recovery

* Continued usage of drug substances and alcohol despite consistent issues and dilemmas resulting from these substances or alcohol

* Feelings of hopelessness ultimately causing more of a tendency to quit on the pursuit of sobriety

* Having learned behaviors to function with treatment in such a way that matches the addict’s or alcoholic’s own agenda, not merely to pursue sobriety

* Ability to exhaust economic and psychological support of the others to be able to be left alone

* Persuasive personality traits to get what one wants

* Personality issues and faculties

If somebody is continuing to relapse and they display these characteristics, it is not a case of an addict or alcoholic being set in a bad situation that reawakens drug and alcohol use again, it is because they are a chronic relapser and a great amount of work goes to have to be done in order to help them reach a place of consistent sobriety.
